Plate 1 depicts geologic formations, faults, wells, descriptions of map units, geologic symbols, a cross section, and other information. This open-file release makes GIS data available to the public during the review and production period necessary for a formal UGS publication. The map may be incomplete, and inconsistencies, errors, and omissions have not been resolved. While the document is in the review process, it may not conform to UGS standards; therefore, it may be premature for an individual or group to take actions based on its contents. The Bountiful Peak quadrangle is just northeast of Salt Lake City. Parts of the cities of Bountiful, Centerville, and Farmington occupy the western part of the quadrangle in the valley and foothill areas. The central and eastern parts of the quadrangle are dominated by rural, rugged, and steep mountainous terrain of the northern Wasatch Range and Sessions Mountains. The bedrock geology in the quadrangle includes Paleoproterozoic metamorphic rocks of the Farmington Canyon Complex as well as Cambrian and Tertiary sedimentary rocks. Major angular unconformities separate each age group of bedrock units. The metamorphic rocks are commonly deeply weathered and altered to clay minerals. The clay-rich minerology and steep terrain has resulted in numerous landslides of varying ages throughout the quadrangle. The urbanized valley part of the quadrangle contains the southern part of the Weber segment of the active Wasatch fault zone, a major segmented normal fault zone that bounds the east side of the Basin and Range Province and creates the stark topographic rise of the Wasatch Range. This active fault zone presents a significant earthquake hazard to the communities along the fault.", "summary": "", "title": "OFR703DM_BountifulPeak_GeologicUnits_labels", "tags": [], "type": "", "typeKeywords": [], "thumbnail": "", "url": "", "minScale": 0, "maxScale": 0, "spatialReference": "", "accessInformation": "Program Manager: Grant C.
