<attrdef>This field is used to store the unique name for each geologic unit in the project. To facilitate incorporation into a comprehensive database the format for the name should be Group, Formation, Member, sub-member all separated by commas for future parsing. The group can be omitted if the unit is not a member of a formal group or if the geologist prefers it. By using this method, all of the units in a database will be sorted along with other members of their formation or group.

<attrdef>This field is used to store some kind of unit grouping established by the geologist. The grouping attribute is intended to make the inevitable task of simplifying the large-scale data to a smaller-scale easier in the future. For example, once the 100k and smaller mapping is complete for the entire state we could simply use the grouping attribute (if properly established) to create a new version of our state geologic map. Groupings can range from official formation groups such as the Uinta Mountain Group to large formations that could be considered a group in many places in Utah such as the Moenkopi Formation. Groupings should also include Quaternary and Tertiary deposits and intrusions such as Quaternary mass wasting deposits or Tertiary intrusive bodies.

<attrdef>This field is used to store the characteristics of the primary lithology of each unit. It will be used to comply with USGS geologic map data standards and will aid the UGS Mapping Program to incorporate our data into the National Geologic Map Database (NGMDB). Composition can include as many types of the unit materiel as the geologist wishes. The most prominent type should be first, followed by other types in ascending order of abundance. Grain size may be included with the lithologic type. If the geologist wishes they can include the relative percentage of the various lithologic types present in the unit. For example: fine-grain sandstone (40%), pebble comglomerate (20%), mudstone (20%). All types should be seperated by a comma and a space, and for the last type "and" should not be used. If only commas seperate the materiel types then they can be further extracted with ease if necessary. This information can usually be extracted from the unit descriptions. A USGS guide to compositional classification can be found at: http://www.nadm-geo.org//dmdt/pdf/lithclass61.pdf.

<attrdef>This field is used to store the full geologic unit description for each unit found on the geologic map plate 1. Essentially, this description should be the same as the one found in the author(s) booklet, or the description found on the map explanation plate 2, if no booklet is produced. If needed, minor changes should be made for clarity so the description can stand on its own without context to other geologic units. The descriptions should contain the formal unit name, best-known age, primary lithology—followed by others in ascending order—and unit thickness.
