description: This digital dataset represents the geology of the Vernon NE quadrangle at 1:24,000 scale. The Vernon NE quadrangle covers part of the southeastern floor of Rush Valley, in Tooele County, Utah. Geologic units in the Vernon NE quadrangle include consolidated Tertiary age basin fill of the Salt Lake Formation and various unconsolidated deposits. The Salt Lake Formation is exposed in the southern half of the quadrangle as a series of topographically low outcrops, partially overlain and surrounded by unconsolidated deposits that include various lacustrine and alluvial units. The Salt Lake Formation is exposed as a broad west-dipping panel disrupted by several small folds and down-to-the-east normal faults. There is no evidence of Quaternary fault offset in the quadrangle. Lacustrine sediments related to late Pleistocene Lake Bonneville cover much of the northern two-thirds of the quadrangle and several prominent erosional benches are etched into exposures of the Salt Lake Formation.
